Our Story

Ken and Ginny first met in college the summer of 1991 and married three years later. A painter and a craftsman who share an appreciation for art and design, they decided to open a small business shortly after their sixth child was born. Ken, a former marketing executive, chose to leave the corporate world to be closer to his family, and pursue something he had a real passion for. And for Ginny, the artist and mom, who painted commissioned canvases, portraits and murals out of her home studio, converting that love of art into a full time business was a natural.

Somers Custom Framing opened in December 2006. At it's inception, the focus of the shop was primarily Custom Picture Framing with a Print Studio and a few gift items for sale. Ken's framing craftsmanship was quickly noticed, and within a few short years the store won its first of 2 "Best of Westchester" awards for Custom Picture Framing by Westchester Magazine. Ken maintains a reputation for outstanding frame design and impeccable workmanship.

Ginny has been printing on different mediums since the store opened in 2006. Photo pillows, removable wall prints, silk prints, mixed medium canvases, and stationary are some examples. New services and products are always being developed. Of course, photo printing (copies, enlargements, etc.) and printing-to-canvas are the most popular. Two other popular services offered in our studio are: Photo Restoration (repairing faded old, torn, damaged photos then reprinting clean copies) and Giclee Reproductions ( a Fine Art quality reproduction of an original art piece). The process of matching the color to the artist's original is extremely time consuming. It requires the eye of an artist and painstaking attention to detail. All of that work is done in our print studio by Ginny.

Finally, the story of the Gift Store! Ginny paired up with her family friend and 40-year Gift Buying/Merchandising phenomena Donna Santagate. Together they head into NYC every 4-6 weeks to shop the fashion shows and multitude of gift shows. They have an eye for purchasing a unique variety of wonderful gifts and beautifully styled fashion accessories. If you ask their customers the secret to the gift store they'll tell you, "If you see a gift you love, get it before it's gone!" And it is true, merchandise comes and goes quickly. Shopping often, they try not to repeat. It's a fun, ever changing gift store that offers customers something new to see and buy every time they walk through the doors!
